Why is this so exciting?
The Grip is a chuck-style rotary, but it’s more than that. This PiBurn Grip chuck system was designed and built by LensDigital from scratch. It is the only chuck on a rotary designed specifically for laser engraving. Other systems borrowed from the lathe and drilling applications – they are heavy and bulky and can’t hold the delicate glass without breaking it. In short, they are not ideal for laser engraving. The frustration is something we couldn’t let stand!
We have spent years conceptualizing and bringing this tool to makers, and we are so excited at the new opportunities it will open for you and the products you can offer to your customers.
The benefits of a chuck are plenty, but here are a few:
- Never worry about walking or horizontal shift

- No tools are required to tighten the Grip! Simple and quick swapping, tighten and loosen with your hands. If you need a little extra, we include a handy little lever to tighten, but it’s super quick and easy.
- Adjustable angle like the original PiBurn for tapered objects
- Includes rubber-padded “fingers” for the extra delicate glass items
- Extra long jaws are included for items like dog bowls, rolling pins, and niche applications.
- Have a PiBurn? The PiBurn Grip can be purchased as an add-on to the PiBurn 4, and then it becomes two rotaries in one, providing you with backup for your operations – there are two separate motors (chuck has a dedicated motor)
- The jaws are interchangeable, so you can configure the Grip to.. well.. grip anything you can imagine!

Looking to build the PiBurn Omni?
The Omni configuration mounts the Grip on top of the Roller Wheels of your PiBurn V3 or V4. To do this with the V3 you must have a metal clamp, it will not mount on top if you have a plastic clamp. You will still be able to use it as a standalone Chuck rotary.

The below video shows a technique called “Scoring.”
It allows the laser to move in a continuous motion, instead of line by line. This is only possible on the PiBurn Grip as any roller rotary will not have enough friction to allow for the back-and-forth motion needed for this technique.
Engrave small objects easily.
Oddly shaped objects that can’t sit on wheels are no match for the Grip!

Attempted to use the hotdog style roller that came with our laser. Not much luck, so after reading up on rotaries and watching a bunch of videos we decided to purchase the piburn grip. The grip allows me to engrave all the odd shaped items I have purchased in the past wanting to engrave but couldn’t. I am so excited to own and use this new revolutionary rotary!! It also makes engraving all the things that are harder to set up on the piBurn like steamed glassware and so much more! I also loooove that using my grip allows me to maximize the Z travel space on my Mira 9. I can now engrave bigger things like dog bowls where before they were too tall between the rollers and item to be engraved.
I’ve even engraved tiny things like silicone rings on my new grip!

The Grip is a fantastic tool for engraving a wide range of products. I’ve been using it for a bit now and love how easy it is to use and it’s opened up possibilities I wouldn’t have with a roller rotary. I’ve got mine set up Omni style. Which means I have both the roller and the grip on top. One thing when using the grip you don’t need to change steps per rotation when engraving different sized products, this is a huge time saver and simplifies the entire engraving process. If you engrave cups with handles this is the most efficient tool you can use. Many different attachments to choose from. Let you imagination run wild.
